September 30, 2014

TBS has given the greenlight to The Smiths, a new unscripted series centering on NBA legend Kenny Smith and his wife, Gwendolyn Osborne-Smith, along with their five extraordinary kids. Set to shoot in Los Angeles and Atlanta, The Smiths is being produced by Good Clean Fun, with Jason Carbone (The Bachelor, Tia and Tamera, Run’s House), Nick Lee (The Bachelor, High School Reunion, Run’s House), Jeff Altrock (The T.O. Show, Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family) and Kenny Smith serving as executive producers. TBS has ordered six episodes of The Smiths, with plans to launch the series in spring 2015.

The family at the center of The Smiths is headed by Kenny and Gwen, who probably never would have guessed when they got married that their conflicting parenting styles, whirlwind schedules and family chemistry would turn their quiet home into an absolute mad house – albeit a loving one.

With five kids ranging in age from age 2 to 20, a successful wife and an accomplished career both on and off the basketball court, Kenny has just about everything he needs to be considered the Coolest Dad on Earth – everything that is except the ability to impress his own kids. After all, he and Gwen are raising a family of all-stars. The older kids – Kayla, Monique and KJ – are excelling and have careers in music, sports and entertainment, and little Malloy and London prove daily that they are hot on the heels of their siblings.

Each week, Kenny and Gwen must manage a household that has many moving parts in order to accomplish their ultimate goal: keeping their large family of big personalities happy, healthy and going strong – together.

Kenny Smith is an NBA studio analyst for Turner Sports. He joins Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Ernie Johnson each week during the NBA season for their Emmy®-winning program, one of the most entertaining studio shows in sports television. Kenny is also a main studio analyst for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on TNT, TBS, truTV and CBS. In addition, Kenny has served as the NBA expert for Yahoo Sports, a game analyst for New York Knicks games on MSG, and has co-hosted an NBA show on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Kenny won two NBA World Championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995. He played nine seasons in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks. He scored a career-high 41 points against the Los Angeles Lakers, while playing with Houston, on December 26, 1993. He is Houston’s all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage at .407, along with having the best field goal percentage of NBA guards in 1992-93. He was named a member of the NBA All Rookie Team in 1988, after averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 assists per game with the Kings.

Kenny played his college ball at the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1987 with a degree in Industrial Relations (Economics). He holds North Carolina’s assist record with 768, including 86 assists in NCAA Tournament play. He holds a basketball camp each year in Chapel Hill.

Gwendolyn Osborne-Smith joined the long-running game show The Price is Right in 2005. She was born in Bath, United Kingdom, and comes from Jamaican and British ancestry. In addition to her role on The Price Is Right, she played Jade Dominguez for two seasons on the television show Ocean Ave. Other television credits include Charmed and Huff. Gwendolyn’s feature film credits include Jack and Jill, Snow Dogs and Any Given Sunday.

In addition to acting and modeling, Gwendolyn is a singer whose first studio album is currently in the works.

Gwendolyn and Kenny married in 2006. Their son, Malloy, was born in 2008, and their second child, London Olivia, was born in September 2012. The family also includes Kenny’s daughter Kayla, his son KJ and Gwendolyn’s daughter Monique.
