Joel Meyers is the television play-by-play voice for the New Orleans Pelicans. In 2014, Joel also provided play-by-play for TNT’s NBA Playoff coverage. In the off-season, Joel was the TV play-by-play voice of the New Orleans Saints preseason games. Joel also hosts select NBA shows on Sirius Radio’s NBA Channel.
Joel brings over 20 years of broadcast experience. He spent eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, serving as the team’s television play-by-play announcer for six seasons and the radio play-by-play voice for two. Before joining the Lakers, Joel served four years as the voice of the San Antonio Spurs’ television broadcasts.
Having worked for ESPN over more than a decade calling college football, college basketball, and professional golf, Joel has also worked for NBC covering the NFL, two Olympic Games as well as the NBA and professional golf.
Joel’s work with the Lakers was his second partnership with team owner Dr. Jerry Buss, as he also served as a broadcaster for Buss’ Prime Ticket Network (now FSN West and FSN West 2) at the station’s inception in 1985, calling collegiate baseball as well as indoor soccer.
Joel has worked Sunday nights for CBS/Westwood One, calling NFL action and continues to call Big 12 college football games on FSN every Saturday night for the last 11 years.
A St. Louis native, Joel attended the University of Missouri. He and his wife Carol have two sons, Drew and JJ. They reside in New Orleans and Los Angeles.
